Nigerian troops have repelled a major attack by suspected Lakurawa terrorists on a military base in Maiyama Local Government Area of Kebbi State, forcing the assailants to retreat and abandon weapons and equipment.
According to other news outfit , the attack occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, October 7, 2026, when a large number of suspected terrorists stormed the Forward Operating Base on more than 100 motorcycles.
The attackers were reportedly armed with machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades but were forced to withdraw after troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, responded with superior firepower.
The military said subsequent pursuit operations led to the recovery of 17 motorcycles, a PKT machine gun, an AK-47 rifle, assorted ammunition and a communication device.
The military added that the area remained under the control of troops, with patrols and clearance operations ongoing to track down fleeing members of the group.
The incident underscores the continuing security challenges facing communities in Nigeria’s North-West region.
