Only 40% of Births for Nigeria Get Registered — NPC

The National Population Commission, NPC, don raise concern say na only about 40 per cent of births for Nigeria dey officially registered.

This one mean say plenty Nigerian children fit dey grow up without proper birth records, and this fit cause wahala when dem wan access things like school, healthcare, passport and other government services.

According to Leadership, NPC say the low level of birth registration still be serious challenge for the country.

But other reports don show different figures. Arise News report say NPC recently put Nigeria’s birth-registration coverage at about 57 per cent, as the country dey record roughly five million births every year.

To tackle the problem, NPC don start digital birth and death registration, with the aim of making registration easier and reaching more people, especially for rural areas.

UNICEF also previously report say only 43 per cent of Nigerian children under five had their births registered.

As millions of children dey born every year, the big question be: How many Nigerian children still dey grow up without official identity? Na challenge government agencies need to address urgently.
