Di National Examinations Council and di West African Examinations Council don ban anybody wey never reach 18 years from participating for their exams.
Prof. Tahir Mamman, di Minister of Education, reveal this one for Channels Television’s “Sunday Politics” show. E clarify say candidates must be at least 18 years old to sit for WAEC and NECO exams. E talk say na federal government directive.
Mamman also talk say JAMB still get 18-year-old age limit for applicants. E say, “Na 18 years. Wetin we do for di meeting with JAMB na to allow this year as notice for parents, but from next year, JAMB go insist say anybody wey wan go university for Nigeria must meet di required age wey be 18.
“For clarity, this no be new policy; na policy wey don dey for long. If you calculate di number of years wey pupils suppose dey school, you go end up with 17 and a half years. So, we no dey come up with new policy; we just dey remind people of wetin dey exist. NECO and WAEC no go allow underage children write their exams again. If person never spend di required number of years for that level of study, WAEC and NECO no go allow dem write di exam.”
