Former Belgian footballer Radja Nainggolan was arrested on Monday as part of an investigation into cocaine trafficking through the port of Antwerp. The Brussels prosecutor’s office confirmed the arrest, which followed a series of raids across the country.
The investigation centers around the alleged importation of cocaine from South America to Europe via the port of Antwerp, with its redistribution within Belgium. Further details have not been disclosed.
Nainggolan, 36, recently came out of retirement to join lower-tier Belgian club Lokeren after a long career that included stints at Cagliari, Inter Milan, and Roma. He had been without a club since last summer before signing with Lokeren, where he scored a goal in his debut match this past weekend.
The midfielder, known for his tattoos and off-field controversies, had previously been suspended by his former club Royal Antwerp in 2023 for smoking an electronic cigarette on the bench.
