The Minister of Works, David Umahi, don give strong warning to contractors wey dey handle the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project. He talk say any contractor wey no dey serious with the Federal Government road project go get their contract terminated and reassigned to more capable contractors.
Umahi make this statement on Saturday during a stakeholders’ engagement on the alignment of Sections 3B and 4 of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project, wey dem hold for Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom state.
The minister assure the stakeholders and the public of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to the successful completion of the project. He emphasize say out of the total span of 700 kilometers, 107 kilometers, wey consist of 27 kilometers of Section 3B and 80 kilometers of Section 4, dey within the boundaries of Akwa Ibom state, making it the fourth longest portion of the entire coastal highway within a single state.
Umahi express dissatisfaction with the progress of the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), stating, “We use this opportunity to warn CCECC, out of 35 kilometers, they just completed 2.5 kilometers of double carriageway and 4.5 kilometers on single carriageway; that is very terrible. You talk to them, they say it is because of compensation.” He further note say the compensation issue don settle by the Akwa Ibom state governor, Pastor Umo Eno, thus removing any excuses for delays.
The minister emphasize say sufficient funds don dey provided by President Tinubu for the project. “Mr. President don give enough money to fund the project; the same thing with Julius Berger,” Umahi talk.
In his directive, Umahi give the contractors clear marching order to mobilize to the site. He issue ultimatum to both CCECC and Julius Berger, giving them one week to remobilize to the site or face the termination of their contracts.
