Popular street singer, Habeeb Okikiola, also known as Portable, has landed in legal trouble after the police arrested him for allegedly failing to settle the balance of a G-Wagon vehicle he bought from a car dealer.
The incident occurred in Lagos’ bustling Abule Egba area on Tuesday, as confirmed by the state police spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin.
Portable, known for his energetic performances and catchy tunes, reportedly purchased the high-end G-Wagon for ₦27 million but only paid ₦13 million, leaving a significant outstanding amount.
Viral videos on social media captured the arrest scene, showing Portable attempting to evade the approaching police officers by climbing a gate when they arrived with an arrest warrant. Despite his efforts, he was eventually apprehended and taken into custody.
During the arrest, a woman, purportedly the car dealer, could be heard expressing frustration and alleging threats from Portable when she demanded the outstanding payment.
Hundeyin mentioned that Portable’s legal representatives are expected to meet with the police on Wednesday morning, and court proceedings may follow pending discussions between the singer’s legal team and law enforcement authorities.
