Naira Abuse: Don’t Condemn Tompolo Yet – EFCC Chairman

May 26, 2025

Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has called on Nigerians to refrain from condemning ex-militant leader Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, over allegations of Naira abuse.

This comes after a viral video from Tompolo’s 54th birthday celebration showed him dancing while ₦1,000 notes were sprayed around him, sparking public outrage and calls for his arrest.

Speaking in an interview with TVC on Sunday, Olukoyede confirmed that Tompolo has been invited for questioning, stressing that no one is above the law. He urged the public to allow due process, noting that the viral video is undergoing forensic analysis to determine its authenticity.

“It’s a mere allegation for now,” Olukoyede said. “Until we conclude the investigation, we cannot say Tompolo is guilty or not. Every Nigerian deserves fair hearing.”
