The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has introduced two mobile tools — “Scan 2 Verify” and the “Green Book App” — to combat counterfeit drugs in Nigeria’s North-East region.
During a two-day sensitisation workshop in Gombe, healthcare stakeholders, including doctors and patent medicine dealers, were trained on how to use the technologies to verify drug authenticity and promote public safety.
NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, represented by Bitrus Fraden, explained that the Green Book App lists all approved medicines, allowing users to confirm a drug’s legitimacy. Any drug not listed is considered counterfeit.
Participants welcomed the initiative, describing it as a major step in addressing the circulation of fake drugs. NAFDAC also reaffirmed its ongoing crackdown on counterfeit drug markets nationwide and called for greater public awareness to ensure safe medication practices.
