Kylian Mbappé has credited a shift in mentality for his recent resurgence at Real Madrid following a challenging start to his career in Spain. The French striker, who joined the club last summer from Paris Saint-Germain, struggled with inconsistent form early on but has found his best self in recent weeks.
Mbappé admitted to having “hit rock bottom” after missing key penalties against Liverpool and Athletic Bilbao in late 2024 but pledged to overcome his shaky start. He has since scored eight goals in his last 10 games across all competitions.
“It was more of a mental thing… I knew I had to do more,” Mbappé said. “I came to Madrid to play well, and now the situation has changed.”
The 26-year-old also addressed his exclusion from several France squads, acknowledging the criticism but expressing his excitement to return to international duty in March, aiming for the Nations League semi-finals.
