Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has announced he will leave the club this summer after the Club World Cup, bringing an end to a legendary 12-year spell at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The 39-year-old confirmed in an emotional Instagram post that Saturday’s match will be his final appearance at the Bernabeu.
“Everything in life has a start and an end… I’m leaving with a full heart, filled with pride, gratitude and unforgettable memories.”
Modric, who joined Madrid from Tottenham in 2012 for around €35 million, has played nearly 600 games for the club, winning six Champions League titles, four La Liga crowns, and the 2018 Ballon d’Or.
Reflecting on his time with the Spanish giants, Modric said:
“We won it all and I was very happy. Very, very happy.”
Though he will no longer wear the Madrid shirt, Modric vowed to remain a lifelong fan of the club.
