I would have handled economy better than Tinubu – Peter Obi

April 2, 2025

Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration for ineffective economic policies, particularly the floating of the naira without productivity and the rising debt burden. Speaking on Arise News, Obi argued that Nigeria’s economy would have seen significant improvements in two years if he were in office, emphasizing the need to invest borrowed funds in critical sectors like health and education.

Obi condemned the high interest rates, stating they hinder business growth, and accused the government of intimidating the opposition. He also criticized the handling of the Rivers State crisis and the state of democracy in Nigeria, claiming that the political system does not allow opposition to thrive.

On Labour Party’s internal crisis, he blamed government interference but confirmed his continued membership. Regarding the 2027 elections, Obi stated he is focused on working with political allies to “save Nigeria” rather than just seeking power.
