Garnacho unsure on Man United Future After Europa League Final Snub

May 22, 2025

Alejandro Garnacho has hinted at a possible exit from Manchester United after being benched for the club’s 1-0 Europa League final defeat to Tottenham in Bilbao.

Despite playing every knockout round leading to the final, the 20-year-old was dropped by manager Ruben Amorim in favour of Mason Mount, only entering the match with 19 minutes left as United chased an equaliser.

“Until we reached the final, I played every round. And I played 20 minutes today… I don’t know,” Garnacho said post-match, expressing frustration with both the game and United’s dismal season.

The Red Devils are set to miss out on European football entirely next season, sitting 16th in the Premier League with one game remaining—marking their worst campaign in the modern era.

Garnacho, previously linked with Napoli and Chelsea, admitted the entire season could impact his future:

“The final will influence [my decision], but the whole season, the situation of the club [will too].”

His brother, Roberto, further fueled speculation by claiming on social media that Garnacho had been “thrown under the bus.”

Amorim defended his decision, citing Mount’s key role in the semi-final win over Athletic Bilbao, and questioned Garnacho’s missed chances earlier in the tournament.

“Who missed the big opportunity in the first half against Bilbao? Yeah, Garnacho,” Amorim noted.

Garnacho now plans to take time off over the summer before deciding on his next move.
