The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has stated that former Niger Delta militant leader, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, will be questioned over alleged abuse of the naira.
In a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, the EFCC declared: “Nobody is above the law. Tompolo will have questions to answer!” The statement was accompanied by a photo allegedly showing the naira being sprayed.
The controversy erupted after a viral video posted by user Harrison A (@harreceipts) on Sunday showed Tompolo dancing as ₦1,000 notes were being sprayed at his 54th birthday party. Harrison captioned the post: “EFCC, see Tompolo and the Naira o.”
The EFCC has taken action in similar past cases. Socialite Emeka Okonkwo (E-Money) was previously arrested for allegedly spraying dollars. Just last week, actress Iyabo Ojo and comedian Ayo Makun were invited for questioning over currency abuse.
