Bayern Munich have announced the signing of German international defender Jonathan Tah on a free transfer from Bayer Leverkusen. The 29-year-old has signed a four-year contract that will keep him at the club until 2029.
Tah, who spent a decade at Leverkusen and played a key role in their historic unbeaten domestic double in the 2023–24 season, said he is eager to take on responsibility and help Bayern win trophies.
The Bavarians had been linked with the Hamburg-born centre-back last summer but opted against paying a transfer fee. With Eric Dier’s recent departure to Monaco, Bayern moved swiftly to strengthen their defence.
“Jonathan brings international experience, technical quality, and leadership. He’ll be an important addition to our back line,” said Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund.
Tah, who has earned 35 caps for Germany since 2016, remains a key figure in Julian Nagelsmann’s national team plans. He is set to feature in next month’s UEFA Nations League finals, with Germany facing Portugal in the semi-final in Munich on June 4.
Meanwhile, Bayern’s pursuit of Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz appears to have ended, as the Bundesliga champions confirmed “concrete interest” from Premier League winners Liverpool.
