2027: I Will Do Anything for Tinubu—Barau Declares

June 26, 2025

Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin has expressed unwavering support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring his readiness to accept any role assigned to him, including being picked as Tinubu’s running mate.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, Barau described Tinubu as his “political father” and vowed to comply fully with the President’s decisions. “Whatever the President asks me to do, I will do it — 100 per cent,” he said.

While political groups continue to urge Tinubu to adopt Barau as his 2027 vice-presidential candidate, the Kano-born lawmaker maintained that it was too early for politicking. “Let us focus on governance and support Mr President. When he succeeds, we all succeed,” he said.

Barau praised Tinubu’s efforts in addressing inherited national challenges and highlighted the President’s support during his political struggles in Kano. He also reaffirmed his loyalty to the progressive political family.

On constitutional reforms, Barau outlined plans for zonal public hearings on 59 bills and 31 proposals already submitted to the Senate Committee on Constitution Review. The hearings, to be held across the six geopolitical zones, aim to gather public input for proposed amendments.

Chairs for the hearings include Senate President Godswill Akpabio (South-South), Barau Jibrin (North-West), Opeyemi Bamidele (South-West), Lola Ashiru (North-Central), Tahir Monguno (North-East), and Peter Nwebonyi (South-East).
